BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of pulling President into election controversy

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed Rahul Gandhi for allegedly dragging President Droupadi Murmu into a political fight over alleged vote-rigging, questioning why no evidence was presented to her.

A delegation from the INDIA bloc, led by Congress and Rahul Gandhi, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to hand over a memorandum that called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and alleged widespread electoral manipulation. Gandhi later said he was shocked the President did not reject the “vote chori” claims and asserted that evidence of manipulation was known. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra rebuked Gandhi, labeling him incompetent and saying he had turned a formal presidential audience into a political street fight.

Patra questioned why the opposition had not presented any proof to the President if they had been alleging irregularities for a year, and accused Gandhi of mischaracterising the President’s remarks. The exchange highlights the growing tension between the ruling BJP and the opposition over the credibility of India’s recent elections.

Why it matters

The dispute underscores heightened political friction over election integrity and the role of the President in India’s democratic process.
