AAP leaders detained after Chandigarh protest over alleged vote theft
Manish Sisodia and Harpal Singh Cheema headed an AAP demonstration in Chandigarh against the chief election commissioner, and police later detained several participants.
On Saturday, AAP members led by former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema gathered outside the Punjab chief electoral officer's office in Chandigarh to denounce alleged vote theft by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Demonstrators displayed signs such as "Vote Chhor Gaddi Chhor" and shouted slogans demanding the CEC's resignation. Police deployed a large force, erected barricades, and subsequently arrested several leaders, including Sisodia, Baltej Punia and actress Sonia Mann.
Sisodia accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of winning elections through stolen votes and warned that the Centre was suppressing democratic protest, likening the situation to an emergency. He also claimed that 13 crore voters were removed from rolls during the Special Intensive Revision exercise. The AAP reiterated its support for the Cockroach Janta Party's planned Jantar Mantar rally and criticized the BJP-led Centre for detaining youth activists.
