Hundreds detained after stone-throwing clash with police near Akashwani Bhawan in New Delhi

Around 500 protesters were arrested after 25-30 demonstrators hurled stones at police near Akashwani Bhawan, injuring two officers.

Saturday’s planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar turned violent when 25-30 protesters scaled barricades on Imtiaz Ali Marg near Akashwani Bhawan and pelted stones at police and paramilitary guards, leaving two officers injured. Security forces responded by detaining about 500 individuals who attempted to march toward the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar, where a prohibitory order was in effect.

Several participants were chased and arrested at locations such as Connaught Place while others were turned back. The protest, scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., was blocked from reaching its intended venue, and the crackdown continued across the New Delhi district. Officials said the stone-pelting and barrier breach prompted the large number of arrests.
