Border chief Shuhaily Zain to face court over alleged assault on police at KLIA

Shuhaily Zain, director-general of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, will appear before Sepang Magistrate’s Court on charges of hurting two police officers at KLIA on Sept 28.

Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency director-general Shuhaily Zain will be arraigned at Sepang Magistrate’s Court on accusations of causing hurt to two police personnel at KLIA on Sept 28. The charges, filed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, stem from a video showing a man resembling Shuhaily confronting and allegedly grabbing the officers by the ears. Shuhaily, a former head of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department, described the legal action as the “price to pay” for reforms aimed at strengthening the nation’s border security and said he will accept any court ruling.

MCBA has lodged its own police complaint, suggesting the footage may have been released to damage the agency’s reputation. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Attorney-General’s Chambers has asked for additional investigative paperwork before proceeding. The incident has sparked public debate over the balance between security measures and accountability of senior officials.

Why it matters
