British tourist severely injured as projectile rips calf during France riots

A British visitor was badly wounded in Toulouse when a projectile tore her calf amid weekend riots, prompting nationwide curfews.

The weekend riots across France left a British tourist in Toulouse with severe injuries after a projectile ripped off part of her calf and lodged plastic in her knee, according to an eyewitness. Emergency responders and street medics managed the bleeding before she was hospitalized. Police detained more than 2,400 demonstrators and reported damage to roughly 3,000 businesses.

In response, President Emmanuel Macron imposed nationwide curfews and announced a large police presence for the Champions League match, while Interior minister Sebastien Lecornu credited the targeted curfews with reducing violence and said additional restrictions will be set by local prefects as needed. Authorities described the unrest as "apocalyptic," and the Gilet Jaunes movement is expected to protest again. Macron blamed far-left agitators and criminals for the chaos.
