Committee vote fails to suspend parliamentary immunity for three MPs

On Monday, the Mentelmi Committee considered a defamation and honor-offence case concerning Kocsis Máté, Panyi Miklós and Pócs János, tied to the Szőlő Street child-abuse investigations. Chairwoman Sasi-Nagy Edit, representing the Tisza Frakció, proposed an unusual suspension of the three members' parliamentary immunity, citing the gravity of the accusations against a lawyer by Fidesz representatives. The committee vote ended in a 3-3 tie, failing to achieve a majority, and the recommendation to keep the immunity intact was adopted.

All three lawmakers received summonses to the hearing; Kocsis Máté did not appear, while Pócs János presented new audio recordings and witness statements, and expressed readiness to be tried in court. Panyi Miklós attended as well, describing the case as a rare, politically charged matter affecting an entire political community and affirming his intent to defend his position in any proceeding.
