Delhi police lodge FIRs after INDIA bloc march, Supreme Court flags petition flaws
Delhi police filed several FIRs accusing INDIA bloc protesters of breaking barricades and graffiti, while the Supreme Court highlighted defects in their election-roll petition.
After a Monday demonstration by the INDIA bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, Delhi police lodged several FIRs at Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg stations, accusing participants of tearing down barricades and defacing roads with graffiti. The protest culminated in a march toward the Supreme Court, where eleven opposition figures later submitted a petition contesting the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The Supreme Court Registry subsequently flagged fourteen procedural defects in the writ filed by Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and nine other bloc leaders, questioning why the chief election commissioners were named as respondents. The petition seeks judicial scrutiny of the roll-revision process. In parallel, police requested an extension of the deployment of 273 CAPF companies in Delhi until October 20, citing possible actions by the Cockroach Janta Party, Bhim Army, student groups and others at sensitive sites such as Jantar Mantar, the Election Commission, Parliament House and India Gate. Additional CAPF units have arrived, though some have yet to report for duty.
