Delhi traffic advisory issued amid protests and calls for Supreme Court march
The Delhi Traffic Police announced diversions starting at 06:00 AM on October 12 and urged commuters to allow extra travel time, while opposition leaders called for a Supreme Court march following recent police crackdowns.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory stating that traffic diversions will begin at 06:00 AM on October 12 across a list of key roundabouts, flyovers and intersections, including Shankar Road, Dhaula Kuan and Mandi House. Travelers are advised to allow additional time, especially when using routes to railway stations, ISBTs or the airport, and to limit non-essential travel. Authorities emphasized that restrictions are dynamic and may be adjusted based on real-time conditions.
The advisory follows a day after police cracked down on protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, prompting opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke to call for a march to the Supreme Court on October 12. The BJP dismissed the protests, with Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar likening the opposition’s presence to a cockroach, while Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused Congress, AAP, Left parties and the CJP of fomenting disorder and commended the police for ensuring public safety.
