DREPT Party urges President Dan to reject Diana Șoșoacă's Cotroceni visit
The DREPT party asked President Nicușor Dan not to host MEP Diana Șoșoacă at the presidential palace, accusing her of pro-Russian ties.
The political group DREPT appealed to President Nicușor Dan to decline an invitation for Diana Șoșoacă to appear at the Cotroceni Palace. In its communiqué, the party, established by Vlad Gheorghe, described Șoșoacă as aligned with Russian interests, citing her public commendations of a St. Petersburg forum linked to President Putin and her regular presence at the Russian embassy. DREPT further highlighted that Șoșoacă, currently serving as a Member of the European Parliament, is under investigation for a series of alleged crimes, among them the promotion of extremist and legionary ideas.
The party warned that granting her access would legitimize individuals it views as hostile to Romania's pro-Western stance. It called for a consistent message from the presidency rejecting any perceived pro-Putin influence.
Why it matters
The request reflects tensions over foreign influence and extremist politics within Romania's leadership.
