Education Minister vows full probe and accountability for Irene Sofiya's death
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will investigate the murder of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya and ensure any negligence is addressed.
At a press conference, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek affirmed that the ministry will work alongside police to uncover the truth behind the death of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, classified as a murder investigation. She said the ministry will scrutinise its own duties, correct any lapses in standard operating procedures, and pursue accountability for negligence. Following her visit to Yong Peng, where she met the grieving family and officials, the ministry mobilised a psychosocial support team to provide counselling to the family, classmates and staff.
Fadhlina cautioned against public speculation, noting that several involved students are minors and should not be judged on social media before due process. She stressed that safeguarding schools is a core responsibility, not only for this case but for all Malaysian children.
