Energy State Secretary András Tótth Resigns Amid Personal Reasons
András Tótth has stepped down as the energy state secretary, citing personal reasons. His departure takes effect immediately.
András Tótth announced his resignation from the role of energy state secretary within the Ministry of Economy and Energy, attributing the decision to personal reasons. President András Baka, acting on Prime Minister Magyar Péter's recommendation, formally ended Tótth's appointment. Tótth, who assumed the position in late May, began his career as an energy specialist at Boston Consulting and later held senior roles at E.ON Földgáz and the MVM Group, concentrating on strategy, regulation and trade.
Ministry head István Kapitány praised Tótth's background as a solid foundation for tackling the sector's challenges. The ministry said the outgoing secretary's agenda focused first on implementing measures to attract EU funds, and then on developing a strategy to boost energy efficiency, self-reliance and competitiveness.
Why it matters
The resignation could affect Hungary's energy policy direction and its handling of EU funding initiatives.
