Parliament passes diesel tax rebate for truckers with 124-30 vote
Hungary's parliament approved a law reducing diesel excise for freight carriers, winning 124 votes against 30.
On Monday the legislature adopted an amendment submitted by Finance Minister Kármán András that refunds part of the diesel excise tax to transport firms. Prime Minister Magyar Péter and Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid announced a 25-forint-per-liter rebate, claimable after each refuel. The measure was backed by opposition and Mi Hazánk deputies, while most Fidesz and KDNP members voted against it, with one Fidesz MP supporting and one KDNP MP abstaining.
Why it matters
The rebate lowers fuel costs for truckers, potentially reducing transport prices and supporting the national economy.
