India's semiconductor push sees five production lines and plans broader ecosystem under ISM 2.0

At SEMICON India 2026, MeitY secretary Krishnan announced that five semiconductor units are now operational, demonstrating the success of the first phase of the India Semiconductor Mission. The follow-up program, ISM 2.0, is designed to develop a comprehensive domestic ecosystem that supports every facet of chip production. Krishnan pointed to the event’s scale as evidence of growing global confidence, citing participation from more than 600 firms, half of which are foreign, and about 40,000 delegates representing 52 countries.

The exhibition, held at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Delhi, runs from September 17 to 19 under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.” This momentum signals India’s push to become a notable destination for semiconductor manufacturing.
