Infineon CEO declares India a crucial market for semiconductor growth
Infineon chief Jochen Hanebeck said India is a market of “tremendous importance” for its chip business, noting rapid ecosystem growth and a 28% rise in Indian staff.
Speaking at the opening session of SEMICON India 2026, Infineon Technologies chief executive Jochen Hanebeck called India a market of “tremendous importance” for the firm’s semiconductor operations, citing the country’s strong economic growth and industrial ambitions. Infineon now works with more than 1,200 Indian clients, from startups to large corporations, and has increased its Indian headcount by 28% over the past year, reaching over 2,800 staff in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The company is expanding its Global Capability Centre in Ahmedabad, strengthening research and development activities in Hyderabad, and constructing a state-of-the-art campus in Bengaluru. Hanebeck stressed that a sustainable chip ecosystem requires collaboration among industry, government and academia. To support talent development, Infineon partnered with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology to launch a Centre of Excellence for training engineers. He highlighted India’s rapid progress in creating home-grown technology solutions that also contribute to global innovation.
