Judge Rejects Wan Azri's Request to Suspend RM280,000 Payment to Guan Eng and Son

In a recent ruling, Judge Roslan Mat Nor refused Wan Azri's application to stay the enforcement of a RM280,000 judgment in favor of Guan Eng and his son. The judge said Azri failed to provide any exceptional reasons for a suspension, dismissing his argument that an appeal would render the payment moot and that bankruptcy could ensue if the sum were paid now. Consequently, Azri must also pay RM5,000 in legal costs.

The judgment follows a High Court finding that Azri defamed the Lim family in a March 2020 Facebook post, falsely alleging Clint Lim was detained while smuggling RM2 million into Singapore and that Guan Eng traveled there to rescue him. The court ordered Azri to compensate Guan Eng with RM200,000 and his son with RM80,000, plus respective costs. Lawyers Simon Murali and Norfazilah Jaafar represented the parties, and the plaintiff's team has not yet filed an enforcement request.
