Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Begins Two-Day State Visit to Maldives

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commenced a two-day official visit to the Maldives, with the aim of giving fresh impetus to the long-standing relationship between the two nations. High Commissioner Badli Hisham Adam said the trip will concentrate on consolidating current cooperation and identifying new opportunities in trade, investment, education, tourism, defence and Islamic affairs. Anwar will hold talks with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to assess the state of bilateral ties and exchange views on broader regional and global matters.

The leaders are set to sign memoranda of understanding covering defence collaboration and Islamic affairs, followed by a joint press briefing and a formal luncheon. The visit follows President Muizzu’s reciprocal trip to Malaysia in April 2025 and seeks to build a more dynamic partnership.
