Motreanu blames PSD for extending Romania's government formation crisis

Europarliamentarian Dan Motreanu criticised PSD for rejecting the forthcoming Siegfried Mureșan government without examining its policy agenda or proposed ministers. He noted that PSD had more than four months to negotiate a solution but continued to point to Ilie Bolojan as the main obstacle, even though Bolojan is no longer in the running. Motreanu asserts that PSD now opposes a cabinet that could be formed without AUR and without Bolojan, contradicting its earlier stance.

He suggests the party seeks either a premier from its own ranks or a non-party figure who would still allow PSD to control the government. Motreanu also reminded that PSD had previously warned of urgent needs such as the 2027 budget, EU funds, energy, the economy and regional security, which now appear ignored. The president Nicușor Dan has designated Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister, and the nominee is set to present his program and cabinet to parliament for a confidence vote.
