Premier League clubs chase several players as transfer window draws to a close

Chelsea have opened talks with former Liverpool and Al-Ettifaq midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum about a free-transfer signing, and are also weighing a bid for Monaco’s 22-year-old Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara after a failed deadline-day move. Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Bournemouth’s 20-year-old French striker Eli Junior Kroupi for a possible January transfer, and assistant manager Gabriel Heinze contacted Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, but the Italian club declined to negotiate.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa will continue to chase Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old Cameroon forward Christian Kofane when the window reopens. Manchester United chose not to add a left-back, citing a lack of suitable options, and Tottenham’s Brazilian forward Richarlison has agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on a deal worth three times his current wages. Everton turned down a late £65 million offer from Chelsea for midfielder James Garner and indicated no intention to enter the free-agent market.
