Prime Minister invites families to joint 1956 commemoration with flag march and foreign guests
A state ceremony honoring the 1956 legacy will feature a family-focused invitation, a flag march by the ruling party and speeches by former officials.
An automated invitation, spoken by Magyar Péter, calls citizens to a state-organized remembrance of the 1956 uprising, stressing that the legacy belongs to all Hungarians. The program starts at the university’s riverbank and Bem Square, then proceeds to Kossuth Square and the lower Danube promenade. At two o'clock, the parliament will hold a ceremonial session attended by the president and foreign dignitaries such as the European Commission president, followed by a four-o'clock broadcast from Kossuth Square.
The evening will feature a reception for international guests at the Museum of Fine Arts. Opposition parties have announced they will not participate in the parliamentary ceremony, while the ruling Fidesz party will conduct a flag march from the university to Bem Square. Speeches are slated from former president János Áder, Fidesz faction leader János Bóka, and former Terror Háza director Mária Schmidt, with Mi Hazánk holding its own event at Corvin.
