Ursula von der Leyen to attend Budapest ceremony marking historic anniversary
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will join a Budapest event on October 23 to commemorate a major historical milestone, announced by the Commission’s spokesperson.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, confirmed her participation in a Budapest ceremony on October 23 that will mark the 70th anniversary of a historic revolt. The announcement came from Commission spokesperson Paola Pinho during a regular press briefing. Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar Péter indicated that the event will host European leaders, with the Russian president notably absent.
Earlier bilateral talks between von der Leyen and Magyar Péter, held shortly after the new Hungarian government took office, focused on unfreezing EU resources. The two leaders also met in Brussels last week as part of the EU leaders’ summit. Additionally, the Commission is preparing a new framework before year-end to address migration emergencies at the Union’s external borders.
Why it matters
The visit highlights EU-Hungary cooperation and signals upcoming financial and migration policy actions.
