PSOE WhatsApp group allegedly plotted against Badajoz prosecutor Diego Yebra, evidence shows

A WhatsApp chat linked to the PSOE is accused of coordinating a campaign to undermine prosecutor Diego Yebra, sharing his cycling photos as leverage.

Prosecutor Diego Yebra, the delegate for road safety in Extremadura and later appointed to the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office in Badajoz, became the target of a coordinated effort allegedly organized within a PSOE WhatsApp group. The macro-corruption investigation, overseen by Santiago Pedraz of the Audiencia Nacional, uncovered messages in which participants such as party operative Leire Díez, businessman Javier Pérez Dolset and ex-judge Luis José Sáenz de Tejada shared a photograph of Yebra at a charity cycling event and suggested using it to pressure the prosecutor.

The chat, created in August 2024, also referenced attempts to link the prosecutor’s case to local PP mayoral scandals and questioned how a judge could preside over a case without any formal charges. One outlet obtained the chat, linking it to earlier revelations about a similar scheme against judge Biedma. The revelations expand a wider inquiry into alleged PSOE-led attempts to destabilise judicial processes affecting the party and the government.

Why it matters

It raises concerns about political meddling in the judiciary and the integrity of legal proceedings.
