Russia and Ukraine agree limited ceasefire in Oleshky as strikes continue elsewhere
Russia and Ukraine have started a regional ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid into the occupied town of Oleshky, while fighting persists in other areas including Kyiv.
On Tuesday, Russia and Ukraine declared a localized ceasefire aimed at facilitating humanitarian operations in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, located on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River opposite Kherson. The pause, confirmed by Ukrainian parliamentary human-rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, is intended to enable aid shipments and evacuations amid acute food and medicine shortages. The agreement was reportedly coordinated with US First Lady Melania Trump and Russian human-rights commissioner Yana Lantratova.
Despite the lull around Oleshky, Russian forces resumed shelling in Kyiv, damaging the Southern Bridge and subway infrastructure and halting traffic, while a missile strike killed at least one person and injured 15 in the capital. Additional attacks hit Kharkiv, Pavlohrad, the Russian city of Bryansk and a bus in Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia, causing further civilian deaths and injuries. Both sides deny intentionally targeting civilians, and U.S. envoys continue to mediate broader peace talks slated for Abu Dhabi in early November.
