Sarawak Premier thanks federal government for RM16.2 billion budget boost

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari expressed gratitude to the federal government for raising the state's 2027 allocation to RM16.2 billion.

During a celebration at Padang Merdeka in Kuching for the 80th birthday of Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari thanked the MADANI Government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for increasing the state's annual federal allocation to RM16.2 billion for the 2027 budget. This figure marks an increase from the RM15.1 billion allocated in the previous year. The same budget raised Sabah's allocation to RM18.7 billion, up from RM17.6 billion in 2026.

Abang Johari highlighted Tun Dr Wan Junaidi's extensive experience in security and governance, noting his insight into state and national stability. The festivities included 107 contingents from government agencies, statutory bodies, the private sector, educational institutions and NGOs, involving roughly 5,000 participants, and will continue with additional events through October 9.

Why it matters

The higher federal allocation provides Sarawak with more resources for development and public services.
