Security personnel carried out an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing three terrorists. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the troops, saying the actions help dismantle terrorist networks supported from abroad. The province continues to grapple with rising violence, recording 54 attacks in August, a 50 percent increase from July, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
The recent period has seen a series of raids that eliminated eight militants in DI Khan, three in Mir Ali, five in Bara, and several others across the region. Earlier in September, a suicide blast at the Aman Mela police checkpost in Darazinda tehsil killed a dozen and injured 35, while a major assault in Kohat's old Police Lines claimed 23 lives. Authorities remain focused on eradicating the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij.
