Taiwan's labor minister travels to Nanjing for APEC HR meeting
Labor Minister Hung Sun-han became the first cabinet member of President Lai Ching-te's administration to visit China, flying to Nanjing for an APEC human resources summit.
On Sunday, Labor Minister Hung Sun-han landed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and then boarded a flight to Nanjing, marking the first visit to China by a cabinet official in President Lai Ching-te's tenure. He is slated to join the APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting on Monday, while offering only a brief wave to waiting reporters. Hung later emphasized APEC’s role as a multilateral economic forum and affirmed Taiwan’s commitment to participate according to APEC rules without self-imposed restrictions.
The Straits Exchange Foundation’s secretary-general Luo Wen-jia described the trip as part of Taiwan’s routine APEC engagement. Although Taiwan will attend the APEC Leaders Summit in Shenzhen as "Chinese Taipei," President Lai cannot travel there because of Beijing’s objections, and envoys will represent him.
