Trump kicks off 32-day midterm push in Texas, Oklahoma amid GOP anxieties

Donald Trump began a month-long campaign tour of Texas and Oklahoma to rally Republican candidates as several Senate and House races tighten.

Donald Trump started a 32-day midterm campaign tour on Thursday, visiting Texas and Oklahoma to boost Republican candidates ahead of the November elections. The trip comes as the GOP grapples with narrow margins in the House and Senate, with Texas listed among eight competitive Senate races. Trump is slated to share a stage with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who recently faced a leaked recording in which he claimed the party’s September convention hurt Republican prospects; Paxton’s campaign dismissed the tape as manipulated.

At a Peterbilt Motors facility, Trump will tout the truck-tariff program he says created thousands of jobs, even as fuel prices in Texas have surged to record highs amid the Iran war. After Texas, the former president will rally in Durant, Oklahoma, before heading to Alabama, focusing on states that remain solidly Republican but host a few pivotal contests.

Why it matters

The tour could shape voter sentiment in key swing races that determine control of Congress.
