Umno leader may move to table no-confidence motion against Negeri Sembilan MB
An anonymous source says UMNO’s Jalaluddin Alias plans to introduce a no-confidence motion against Menteri Besar Ismail, pending approval from the party’s central leadership.
A confidential source reports that Jalaluddin Alias, UMNO’s state chief and Pertang assemblyman, intends to table a no-confidence motion targeting Menteri Besar Ismail, with the decision awaiting the central UMNO leadership. The upcoming state assembly session, postponed to Nov 26 to coincide with the 2027 budget rollout, will be the venue for the motion if it proceeds. Assembly speaker Awaludin Said has already stated he has not been served a formal notice and would not permit even an emergency motion to dismiss the Menteri Besar.
Ismail, who took office on Aug 2 after Barisan Nasional secured 18 seats, has been embroiled in a constitutional dispute over the attempted removal of the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz. After signing a controversial proclamation on Aug 3, Ismail claimed duress and filed a police report. Former executive council members continue legal challenges against the revocation of their appointments by the ruler.
Why it matters
The potential vote could destabilize Negeri Sembilan’s government and affect state-level political dynamics.
