US ambassador in Greece allegedly pushed Bulgaria to buy American LNG

A report said US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle visited Bulgaria with the aim of encouraging the Sofia government to acquire US liquefied natural gas. She was accompanied by Christos Marafatsos, a 39-year-old lobbyist for the Greek construction company Aktor, which collaborates with Greece’s state energy firm DEPA on a project to supply American LNG to Southeast Europe. The report says Guilfoyle directed Bulgarian officials toward Aktor, after which the Greek firm signed contracts with Bulgarian gas companies.
