AUR leader urges liberal MPs to reject Niculescu government vote
George Simion called on liberal parliamentarians to withhold support for the incoming Luca Niculescu cabinet and accused former premier Ilie Bolojan of being blackmailed.
In the parliamentary session preceding the investiture vote for Luca Niculescu’s cabinet, AUR leader George Simion urged liberal lawmakers to refuse their backing, emphasizing the importance of each vote. He directly addressed former premier Ilie Bolojan, insinuating that the former prime minister was being extorted to support the Niculescu government. Simion called on all MPs, including those from the PNL, to respect the Romanian voters’ desire for snap elections and to avoid legitimising a government he claims will worsen economic hardship.
He warned that voting for the cabinet would betray the people who elected them. Niculescu, awaiting a minimum of 233 affirmative votes, presented his policy agenda, promising pension indexation, tax cuts, and increased spending on education, health and digitalisation.
Why it matters
The appeal could influence the parliamentary vote that determines whether a new government takes power in Romania.
