Grindeanu vows PSD support for Niculescu cabinet while lambasting USR and PNL
PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu announced his party will back the Niculescu-led government and sharply criticised USR and PNL for alleged corruption and neglect of public needs.
In a speech to the reunited Parliament, Sorin Grindeanu declared that the Social Democrats will support the new government under premier-designate Luca Niculescu, yet he stressed that PSD will not inherit the failures of the previous Ilie Bolojan cabinet. He portrayed the Bolojan tenure as moving from a risk of default to outright collapse and blamed the right-wing parties for prioritising power struggles over citizens’ health needs.
Grindeanu singled out USR, demanding explanations for alleged mismanagement of the Mangalia shipyard, Sadu, Romaero and SAFE contracts, and likened their situation to that of former minister Țoiu. He also rebuked PNL for a seven-year uninterrupted rule and for installing four liberal premiers with PSD’s backing, while praising PSD’s past role in forming parliamentary majorities. The leader concluded by warning that the right-wing electorate must now support a change in direction for Romania’s economy, which he says needs oxygen rather than further austerity.
