BN urged to clarify Tuanku Mukhriz dispute before Melaka election nominations

Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani said Barisan Nasional must explain the controversy over Tuanku Mukhriz’s removal before candidate lists are finalised for the Melaka state election.

At a press event in Kuala Lumpur, Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani called on Barisan Nasional to provide a detailed explanation of the proclamation that sought to remove Tuantu Mukhriz from the throne of Negri Sembilan. He argued that the public must understand the procedural difference between a proclamation and an actual removal, and that the misunderstanding could create problems for BN ahead of the Melaka state election starting Oct 31.

Johari noted that the controversy should be addressed before the party finalises its candidate list, which will be decided by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with assistance from Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh. He also clarified that the move to remove Tuanku Mukhriz was not driven by Umno. The comments were made after Johari officiated the opening of Bayu Seafood by White N Black.

Why it matters

Clarifying the royal dispute is crucial for BN to avoid voter confusion ahead of a key state election.
