Business groups urge Romanian government to keep taxes steady and revive SME support program
Entrepreneurial representatives met Prime Minister Luca Niculescu and cabinet members, asking the government to avoid tax hikes and to revive the IMM Invest scheme.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Luca Niculescu and members of his cabinet, representatives of the Romanian business sector voiced strong opposition to any increase in taxes or levies. Florin Dobre, deputy president for social dialogue at IMM România, highlighted the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises and called for a reduction of the fiscal load and a revitalised IMM Invest programme, which he says will not be funded in one outlet budget.
Liliana Agheorghicesei, deputy president for employer development at the same organisation, demanded a predictable fiscal timetable to enable firms to plan budgets. Both speakers noted that the government has so far only pledged to keep taxes unchanged, without outlining concrete cuts. The delegation also rejected proposals to raise the statutory minimum wage and raised concerns about labour shortages, lack of dual-education support, and tourism losses in border counties near Ukraine.
