Delhi Police delete 300 posts and arrest man over AI-fabricated protest video
Delhi Police took down roughly 300 social-media posts accused of spreading rumors and recently arrested 24-year-old Nadeem Ahmed for allegedly using AI to produce a fake video of a police officer harassing a journalist during a protest.
In an effort to limit false information during recent protests, Delhi Police monitored various social-media channels and ordered the deletion of approximately 300 posts they deemed rumor-spreading or capable of inciting unrest. This crackdown comes shortly after the police detained 24-year-old Nadeem Ahmed, who is alleged to have used AI tools to generate a counterfeit video depicting a police officer sexually harassing a woman journalist at a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Authorities emphasized that the fabricated-video investigation is separate from any sexual-harassment allegations against police officers. The police have also approached the platform X, requesting removal of further content they consider objectionable or misleading. Their broader monitoring initiative aims to identify and act against fabricated material, false claims, and posts that could disturb public order.
