Russia expands strikes to Ukrainian bridges, rail lines and data centers

Russia's General Staff chief reported that Russian forces are now targeting Ukraine's strategic bridges, railway infrastructure and data centers, alongside ongoing attacks on energy facilities.

In a briefing with President Vladimir Putin, General Staff chief Valeri Gherasimov said Russian troops are now focusing on Ukraine's strategic bridges, railway networks and data centers, adding to a wave of attacks on energy installations. He described the operations as part of a broader plan to disrupt the logistical and digital support for Ukrainian forces. Since early October, Russian drones have repeatedly struck Kyiv's South and North bridges, leading to prolonged closures, and a bridge in Zaporizhzhia has also been targeted.

Earlier in September, Russian strikes hit several Ukrainian data centers, cutting internet access for hundreds of thousands of users. In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky convened his top military staff to bolster defenses of the country's telecommunications infrastructure.

Why it matters

The attacks aim to cripple Ukraine's logistics and digital capabilities, heightening pressure on its war effort.
