Umno leadership reaffirms support for coalition government despite internal dissent

At the Umno general assembly, deputy prime minister Zahid reiterated the party’s commitment to stay in one outlet unity coalition until the end of its term, stressing that diverse viewpoints should be respected. He defended the conduct of Umno cabinet ministers, describing their work as professional despite recent calls from a veteran member for an early general election. Zahid also rebuked critics who suggested removing Umno and Barisan Nasional from the government, inviting them to table a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He noted that remarks made by delegates from various state branches reflect personal opinions, not the party’s official stance, which will be communicated through formal statements by the party secretary-general or himself. The comments followed earlier remarks that the party could outperform the PKR president and included subtle criticisms of Pakatan Harapan.
